Tactical Formation Procedure (TFP)
This procedure is resolved during Step MEL.20 → Use Tactical Formations.
Step TFP.10 → Declaration Window
Declaration: Starting with the Attacker and then the Defender, each player gets an opportunity to spend 1 ⚜️Command Seal to Declare they are using a Tactical Formation, or to Pass.
Final Declaration: If one player Passes but their opponent Declares, the player who initially Passed gets one final opportunity to Declare in response.
Step TFP.20 → Resolve
Based on the outcome of the declarations, resolve one of the following scenarios:
A) Only One Player Declared: That player's chosen formation's effect is applied automatically.
B) Both Players Declared: Resolve a "rock-paper-scissors" contest:
Both players secretly choose one of the three formations (it is recommended to use one, two, or three dice hidden in their fist).
They reveal their selections simultaneously.
Determine the winner based on the relationship:
Advance beats Harass
Harass beats Hold
Hold beats Advance
The Winner's effect is applied to the combat. If both players chose the same formation, nothing happens.
EXCEPTION: If one of the units cannot lose ⚪️Morale tokens (due to some special rule), the effects of the formations do not cancel each other out and are both applied.
Step TFP.30 → Completion
Once the effects of the formations (if any) are determined, this procedure is complete. Return to the Melee Attack Action Procedure (MEL) and proceed to Step MEL.30.
