§5. Battlefield
§5.1. Mat

Gloom of Gods is played on a mat with a hexagonal grid (hexes). The standard grid is 9 hexes deep and has a width of 8 to 10 hexes. All distance and movement are measured in hexes, eliminating the need for measuring tapes and arguments over millimeters.
We have designed a special Subtle Grid System that remains unobtrusive from a distance, preserving the aesthetic beauty of the battlefield, yet becomes easily recognizable precisely when you need to move units or measure ranges.
Additionally, we created exclusive Battle Mat designs depicting the collision of two Shard worlds. You can print these directly from our files or order high-quality physical mats through our partners at DEEP CUT STUDIO.
§5.2. Terrain Features

The Battlefield is a tactical grid primarily composed of standard Open Hex, interspersed with specific Terrain Hexes.
When maneuvering, a Unit must navigate to a valid Empty Hex, as they are generally prohibited from entering an Occupied Hex or Terrain Hex with Impassable Terrain Keyword.
Terrain Hexes can be represented by 3D models or flat 2D tokens. The effects are determined by terrain type:
Terrain Type
Terrain Keyword
Hill
Elevated, No Charge [IN], Obstructing
Cliffs
Impassable, Obstructing
River/Swamp
Difficult, No Charge [OUT]
Lake
Impassable
Forest
Cover, No Charge [IN], Obstructing
Building / Statue
Impassable, Obstructing, Destructible (4)
Ruins / Rubble
Difficult, Cover
Barricades
Cover, No Charge [IN], Destructible (2)
§5.3. Range
Numerical Values: Range is always measured in Hexes.
Range 0: A minimum Range of 0 indicates that the Unit can Target its own hex. A Unit always has Line of Sight to itself (to its own hex ), even if other rules would temporarily remove its Line of Sight to other Targets.
Number Range (e.g., 2-4⬢ Hex): This indicates both a minimum and a maximum Range. Exp.: An Ability with a Range of 2-4⬢ can only Target hexes that are at least 2⬢ hexes away and no more than 4⬢ hexes away.
§5.4. Line of Sight (LOS)
Abilities, Skills, and Spells and other rules often require determining Range and Line of Sight.
For ranged engagement calculations, any hex that obstructs Line of Sight is designated as Blocking.
Two specific hex symbols are used to interpret these rules:
⬢ Solid Hex: This symbol indicates that the rule REQUIRES Line of Sight to the Target.
⬡ Hollow Hex: This symbol indicates that the rule DOES NOT REQUIRE Line of Sight to the Target.
In this game, Line of Sight is always determined using Line Of Sight Procedure (LOS)
Reminder: If an Range is marked with the ⬡ Hollow Hex, the rules in this §5.4. section does not apply.
